Dog Breeds
Small Dog Grooming:

All dogs need to be groomed regardless of their size. Some breeds require less work than others.  Some of the short haired breeds always look well groomed while some of the long haired breeds tend to become matted. Yet both types benefit from regular dog grooming.  The reason is that grooming not only untangles hair but it removes dead hairs and stimulates blood circulation.

Small Dog Grooming Made Easy:
Grooming your pet does not need to be a complicated affair. Keeping a small dog well groomed is much easier than keeping a large dog well groomed.  For one thing, the smaller dog can be placed on a table to make it easier to groom the dog without bending.  A good brush is needed.  Begin around the dog’s face by brushing the hair away from its face. Be extra careful when brushing legs and feet. Make it enjoyable for the dog by giving him treats and praising him.  Your goal is to have the dog associate the grooming with fun, treats, and special one-on-one attention.  If you succeed at having the dog associate the grooming with pleasure, one day you will reach for the brush and some treats and the dog will run to its grooming spot as it would run to the door if you reached for its leash.  Even if your dog is not that keen or that clever you will still know that you have succeeded when he begins to relax and looks like he is enjoying himself.

Dogs tend to enjoy having their ears scratched but they may also have sensitive areas where they don’t want to be touched.  If you groom your dog regularly you will know its quirks and you will also know if an area not usually sensitive is suddenly sensitive.  Many ailments have been discovered during dog grooming.

Bathing Your Dog and Dog grooming Supplies:
Occasionally a dog will become very dirty and need a good bath.  While larger dogs may need to be washed outside or by a professional dog groomer, small dog grooming can be done by owners themselves because of the dog’s size.  A small dog will fit in a regular bath tub and the bathtub can be well disinfected afterwards.  Some people are not comfortable doing this and purchase a small plastic tub.  It does not need to be specifically made for small dog grooming.  It can be a plastic tub for a young child or even a child’s small swimming pool.  If you want your dog to have an enjoyable experience it is best to use warm water. It is also recommended to speak to the dog in a soft tone to help him relax.  After he has been lathered and rinsed, using a dog shampoo made specifically for dogs, it will help if he can get rid of some of the water himself by running around and shaking. Some dogs don’t mind blow dryers but most dogs can usually get used to them especially when they feel a nice heat coming from the dryer.

Professional Dog Groomers:
When an owner does not have the time or desire to do the job themselves, it is always a good idea to take the dog to a professional. Small dog grooming is what dog groomers spend most of their time doing, so they usually have a few tricks up their sleeve to make the whole thing go smoothly.
